Sound Mirrors

INTERACTIVE SOUND INSTALLATION / 2017

Can we harvest something seemingly mundane and turn it into an experience?

‘Sound mirrors’ is an installation which aims to highlight the unexpected quality of ambient sounds in space. A parabolic dish concentrates and captures the surrounding sounds. Simultaneously, they can be heard from a wooden piece at the other side of the space. The installation explores sound as an object’s feature, and its potential to create new interactions in our environments. The two objects are working through a wireless connection. A small microphone in front of the parabolic dish captures the surrounding sounds and simultaneously sends them to the wooden object across the room. The wooden piece acts as a surface speaker through transducers inside of it, which ‘vibrate’ the sound.

Project developed for Dutch Invertuals’ ‘Harvest’ exhibition.
On show during Salone del Mobile 2017.
